A Justification For Implementation Of The Program

A justification for implementation of the program McGrath and Noble (2003), believe that young people in today’s society are using different coping strategies than previous generations to deal with life’s challenges. In today’s society it is believed that young people are more likely to encounter a range of difficult circumstances, negative events and down times and they are not equipped to cope with these challenges and downtimes (McGrath Noble, 2003). Young people in today’s society are more likely to participate in life threatening behaviour like overusing drugs and alcohol, behaving in an anti-social way, suicide and there is evidence to suggest that they are suffering from depression more frequently than older generations (McGrath †¦show more content†¦McGrath and Noble (2003), state that a multidimensional approach that incorporates ways to build environments that foster resilience as well as teaches the personal coping skills of resilience has a much greater success than a program that ad dresses only one set of factors. The Bounce Back! Resilience Program provides practical guidelines on the actions educators can take to build classrooms and schools which showcase resilient behaviour and allows teachers to help students develop resilience through learning personal coping skills (McGrath Noble (2003). An overview of the program The Bounce Back! Program is an award winning program focused on the wellbeing and resilience of young people from kinder to middle school (McGrath Noble, 2016). The program has been written by Dr Helen McGrath and Dr Toni Noble and offers a collection of practical classroom strategies for teachers to utilise to help young people to cope with their everyday lives and allow them to learn to ‘bounce back’ when they experience difficulties and hard times (Kids Matter, n.d.). The program is a social and emotional learning curriculum which can be used by the whole school and helps promote positive mental health, wellbeing and resilience in young people. The program promotes safe and supportive class and school learning environments which allows students to function well at school and in life
